    Bouncy Ball Game

Bouncy ball game is one of the most ancient forms of exercise.

Show your baby how you bounce a ball:

    – up and down,
    – from side to side,
    – round and round,
    – bounce to the door (table, chair, wall etc.),
    – from one corner to another one
    – bounce the ball to your baby etc.

She will be watching you attentively for a while. After some time she will want to repeat after you. Teach your baby to do this activity.

Another variant of the ball game is to roll the ball. You can crawl over the floor and roll the ball to the baby. Or if she can sit with her legs apart you can roll the ball to her gently.  In all these cases a baby should try to roll the ball back. You can make your own variants of playing this game depending on whether the babies can crawl or not, whether they can sit or not. You should always use clean plastic or soft balls.

It’s better if you can sing an appropriate song about rolling balls while playing this game. The song and rhyme develop language skills and will help in reading skills.

At first you should show the ball to your baby and say that this is a ball. Then you can train different ways of playing, e.g. crawling to the objects and roll the ball to the objects; help you baby to roll the ball from side to side etc.

While playing you should talk to the baby and comment the game like:

    I have a little ball,
    Yes, it’s very small.
    It bounces up and down,
    It bounces up and down.

    I have a little ball,
    Yes, it’s very small.
    It bounces to the door,
    It bounces to the floor.

    I have a little ball,
    Yes, it’s very small.
    It bounces round and round,
It bounces round and round etc.

Create rhymes for all ball activities you do with your baby. You can also comment your movements.

    Let’s bounce/roll the ball:

    – up and down,
    – from side to side,
    – round and round,
    – bounce to the door (table, chair, wall etc.),
    – from one corner to another one,
    – crawl to the chair,
    – roll the ball to the door,
    – roll the ball from side to side etc.

It’s important to talk to the infant a lot. The more you talk to him the more the infant will learn, the faster he will start speaking and the richer his vocabulary will be.

    You should know

    – This activity develops motor skills. Babies love this game and get very exciting when they see the ball rolling or bouncing towards them.

    – While playing the game, baby’s motor muscles are being used stimulating the brain growth.

    – Bouncy ball games are the most important component of the childhood.

    – Movements of the fingers and wrists are particularly important for the development of a baby’s brain functions. And the more they diversify, the more “motor signals” the brain gets, the more intense is the accumulation of information, and therefore the intellectual development of a child.

    – Games and exercises with a ball develop orientation in space, regulate force and precision of shots, develop eye, agility, reaction speed. Ball games develop muscle strength, enhance vital organs of the body – lungs, heart, as well as metabolism.

    – Hand movements help speech develop.

    – It is lots of fun!
